Pirated CDs worth Rs 4L seized, 2 held

Senior inspector N R Mali said 2,000 pirated Hindi film CDs, VCDs, DVDs, MP3 discs and pornographic films worth Rs 4 lakh were seized.

MUMBAI: A day after the new ordinance deemed piracy as an offence under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act, the police arrested two people in a raid at Proctor Road in Grant Road (East).
The D B Marg police arrested Chandrashekhar (30) and Mohammad Ghosh Abdul Shekh (42) on Thursday. Senior inspector N R Mali said 2,000 pirated Hindi film CDs, VCDs, DVDs, MP3 discs and pornographic films worth Rs 4 lakh were seized.
The convicts will be produced in the 18th court at Girgaum on Friday.

Since the inclusion of piracy as an offence in the ordinance, police have swung into action and have been conducting raids. In the D N Road area, a hot spot for pirated films, vendors were conspicuous by their absence-not even one was to be found.
